The best bar in Cusco .........

Spanish Ingles

Norton Rat’s Tavern is a pub in Cusco Peru on the main plaza (Plaza de Armas), second floor, with a fantastic view over what is probably the most beautiful plaza in South America.  The premier location and the tremendous balcony make this “the” place to see any of the many festivals and processions that take place here, or just for people watching and soaking up a bit of sun in the seemingly surrealistic atmosphere, which derives from the cross of the colonial Spanish and the Incan architecture.  The Pub itself sits atop a corner of one of the most intact Inca structures, the Accllahuasi Palace, where the “chosen women” and other servants of the royal emperor were kept.

We are open from 7:00am until 2:00am every day.  The sun brightens the balcony and interior all day due to our perfect corner location, weather providing.  If you take the opportunity to relax from a busy itinerary of sightseeing, during the day or the evening, Norton’s is a superb spot to spend time.  The fact that we have local clientele and ex-pats as well as tourists is a testament to the fine service and reasonable prices we have been providing since 1997.

You will find the entrance 10 metres off the Plaza de Armas on calle Santa Catalina Angosta Nº 116, across the street from Gato’s Market.

Our hamburgers are famous; and we serve other great sandwiches as well as the only authentic Mexican food in Cusco.  We also serve breakfasts, hearty or light, as you choose, from 7:00am to 5:00pm.  Happy Hour is 7:00pm-9:00pm, 2 for 1 well drinks, house spirits.

We have three dart boards and a pool table, and show major sporting events on T.V..  We have Wi-Fi internet.  We serve a selection of Peruvian beers as well as English draught ales and other imported bottled Belgian and English beers and cider.  We make great cocktails and have a wide selection of liquors at reasonable prices.  We have one of the best foreign language (non-Hispanic languages) book-exchanges in town.

The Norton Pub is safe, clean, spacious, warm and comfortable, away from the chaotic traffic and impetuous vendors on the street.  We have a good sound system we use to play an array of great timeless music including classic and contemporary rock, blues, African and Latin music at a reasonable volume.  You’ll be refreshed by our collection of music which isn’t normally heard in bars or on radio stations.  We are one of the few places in Cusco with heating, which is comforting on Cusco’s cold nights.  We have an excellent and friendly staff striving to give the best service.

The Norton Rat’s Tavern’s namesake is the old classic British motorcycle such as the one used by Che Guevara on his travels in the 1950’s.  The pub was founded in the spirit of adventure.  The décor is spattered with motorbike paraphernalia.  If you are travelling by motorbike, you must stop in, at least to sign the guest book and to get your free stickers.  We have a space for photos and stickers of the MC travellers, and can provide information and assistance regarding road conditions, mechanics, parts, etc..
